From the reviews
Kana Spa is an oasis of healing. My massage and cupping session went far beyond the physical. It felt like the therapist was reading my body like a map, responding to tension I didn’t even realize I was holding, and guiding my system gently back to balance.
Kanna Spa is truly a hidden gem on the Peninsula! Tucked away on a lovely, quiet cul-de-sac just off El Camino in San Mateo, it feels like a peaceful retreat while still being incredibly convenient to reach. Even better, parking is easy—a rare and much-appreciated bonus!
My husband and I each had a much needed 90 minute Relaxation Massage. This is only our 2nd time at Kanna Spa. May and the other massage therapist each asked and applied the right amount of pressure. They worked on all the problem areas. After our massages.
I've been a regular at Kanna Spa for three years now and the massages are always top-notch, no matter which therapist you see. Plus, the therapists are great at tailoring each session to exactly what you need. And the place itself is always so clean and peaceful, which makes the whole experience wonderfully relaxing.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
