My massage with Scott was great - he’s very experienced and knowledgeable, and he really helped me with the issue I went in for.

Roots is great! Scott really helped a specific problem I had tried for years to fix, and now it's fixed. Ken has provided very therapeutic relaxing massage therapy. I feel confident trying any of the massage therapists at Roots because of my great experiences with these two. 5 out of 5. I highly recommend!

Run, don’t walk, to a massage with Lydia at Roots. Top two massage of over 30 yrs. receiving massages. Lydia accommodates your preferences perfectly (even anticipates); great variety of techniques; clearly invested in staying current in the profession; and… excellent draping technique!

★★★★★ — Cara, Jul 2025

I saw Suzanne Kaplan twice a month for about 1.5 years until I moved out of the area. Suzanne is a highly skilled, intuitive, caring massage therapist who incorporates various massage modalities based on what your body needs. In addition to being a talented massage therapist, she is an absolutely lovely human being.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
