From the reviews

Cara is absolutely phenomenal. She is incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and knows exactly how to tailor a massage to an individual's needs. I usually go to her for shiatsu massage, but she has also been invaluable when I have been injured and need specific work done.

★★★★★ — Thea, Jun 2023

Cara is excellent. I came in with lots of overall tension from a performance weekend (dancer), and she worked some magic. Her combination of massage techniques, cupping, and energy work is unique and so effective. The energy work was especially helpful, as it unwound my nervous system.

★★★★★ — Hannah, Oct 2023

I left my session with Cara feeling lighter and like the energy that needed to move through my body was able to find those pathways. I appreciated how Cara would respond to my inquiries around which meridians she was working on me. She combined shiatsu with acupressure and offered cupping and gua shank where needed.

★★★★★ — Eva, May 2024

I've had the pleasure of visiting Expansive Bodywork for over three years. Cara's expertise in various modalities, including shiatsu, lymphatic drainage, acupressure, cupping, and reiki, is evident in her practice.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
