Why Zen Penguin Wellness is listed — cupping is a treatment, not a Google category, so we only list a provider when there's real proof they offer it. Here's what we found: “in my knees, back, hip and sciatic from osteoarthritis, with cortizone shots in my spine and hip. A coworker mentioned that her friend Kim has an acupuncture practice, that it would help. After 6-7 treatments along with cupping and IT band…” source →

From the reviews

I originally saw Dr. Kim for tinnitus which I developed after an MRI. Upon initial consultation, I was miserable and could not sleep or even function. After approximately 6 or 7 sessions of acupuncture with Dr. Kim I began to see a marked difference. By 10 sessions, I was sleeping and functionally normal once again.

I've been seeing Dr. Filkins since the beginning of 2023. She really gets to know her patients. My sinuses and digestion really improved! She provides great recommendations for at home wellness and other patient needs! I'd highly recommend Dr. Filkins!

I met Dr Kim Filkins at Studio You’s Yoga Nidra + Acupuncture workshop. I have been practicing holistic feeding and veterinary medicine for my pet companions, but I hadn’t been doing any of that for myself. I am a scientist employed by Big Pharma, so I always assumed that was the solution for my medical issues.

Dr. Filkins has helped me tremendously, when I first started seeing her I was a mess, barely able to get out of bed most days. I didn’t see improvement immediately but after a few sessions I started feeling like myself again and I can’t thank her enough for that.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
