I get regular massages, but today was my very first lymphatic drainage massage—and wow, what an amazing experience! I’ve been wanting to try this for so long but could never find a spa in the Bay Area that offered it. Then I discovered Tranquility Spa on Facebook and decided to give it a shot.
What an unexpected gem! I called Tranquil Tranquility Spa on a total whim on a Friday evening after work—thinking it was a long shot to get in. I called around 5:30 p.m., and to my surprise, I as told that i could come in for a one-hour massage at 6:30.
I have been here several times now and cannot recommend it highly enough! Alice is particularly good, she really listens to understand what I need from my massage and spends time where I need it. It’s a great experience from start to finish, professional, clean and a great therapeutic massage.
This was my first massage ever. The space is calming and clean. Lily did a great job and got out quite a few knots.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
