From the reviews
I’ve been going to Salem Acupuncture Therapy for about a year. I originally went for bulging discs in my neck, that were pushing on the nerve roots to my right arm. Big problem! I also had a severe pain in my upper back for years. Christine eliminated the back pain on my first visit.
I spend most of my days hunched over a computer and consequently have a lot of knots and aches in my back. I had heard about cupping and decided to try out a treatment. Christine explained the process and the benefits and gave me my first treatment. I was instantly hooked - she pulled the knots right out of my back!
I have used acupuncture for many years, addressing several issues that traditional western medicine hasn't been able to. The first time I had a session with Christine, I knew she would be the right acupuncturist. Christine researches each issue and will even call others to make sure she's doing the best treatment.
Christine is one of the most gifted practitioners that I have ever worked with. Having dealt with chronic neck pain and tension for years, I have been treated by a dozen or so different practitioners, generally with temporary relief at best.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
