…Today I had cupping done for the first time with him. A few visits ago I had mentioned to him that I've had cupping before and that I didn't like it very much because it was always painful when the doctor removed the cups. Dr. Kalpesh (he likes people to use his first name) said that it shouldn't be that way.
I thoroughly enjoyed my acupuncture and cupping sessions with Dr.Patel. Through my experience with him, I was able to get relief for my upper back pain which has persisted for a long period of time. Additionally, I was able to better understand the root causes for my condition and actions I can take to avoid soreness.
I went in to see Kalpesh Patel today in the midst of experiencing tightness and discomfort in my hip, and left his office feeling like I was walking on a new pair of legs. The treatment was very informative (and quite fascinating to say the least) and beyond that, felt incredible.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
