As an avid runner, I was keen to find a talented masseuse when I moved to Falls Church. Alex is the most gifted massage therapist i have ever worked with! She cares deeply about her clients, and ensures you leave feeling better than when you arrived.
I truly love Alex! She is the best massage therapist I've ever had. I've never felt better. The space is conveniently located in Falls Church City with plenty of parking. It's very relaxing, very soft sheets! I especially love Alex's use of moist heat and cupping.
Alex is an incredible masseuse. She finds all the knots and masterfully untangles them. She is intuitive in her massages and makes sure that even when she is trying to dig out the deepest knot, not pushing too far with pressure. She also uses cups— which is amazing and helps to get at those pesky spots.
I tried out a few different massage therapists before finding Alex at Journey Therapeutic Massage. I was specifically looking for a solo therapist to support small businesses. Alex gives great massages and I have been back several times- I usually go every two weeks.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
