I had the pleasure of meeting Megan, the owner of Healing Journey Acupuncture and Wellness, through the Inward Bound community. From the moment we connected, I was struck not only by her warmth and kindness but also by her exceptional talent for helping others heal.
I met Megan about a month ago and started acupuncture and cupping as my last hope to get relief. I had been dealing with upper back pain for years now and tried everything: physical therapy, chiropractor, medical massage and nothing seemed to help.
I thought about treating my severe low back pain and sciatic pain down my leg with acupuncture for quite a while. I'm tremendously glad that I finally went for it and found Megan, such a gem right here in West Chester!
I decided to give acupuncture a chance when I was trying to have a baby and knew my hormone levels were off. Before I even booked an appointment, Megan called me to see what my best options were. As someone who is not a fan of needles, Megan made the experience a very calm and positive one.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
