I started seeing Dr. Johnson for my chronic migraines in May of this year. I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first and didn’t think I’d complete the 30 visits I signed up for.
Dr. Johnson has been treating me for neck and sciatic nerve pain for six weeks with one to two appts. a week. I suffer from headaches with pain in my neck everyday and take Tylenol to help alleviate the pain. After three treatments, I realized that I haven’t been taking Tylenol and my pain was better.
Dr. Johnston listened and validated my experiences and has been very reassuring through the whole process. The clinic worked with my insurance to get part of my treatment plan covered and they made it very easy on my part.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
