I have to admit, I was skeptical of acupuncture, at first. I've had chronic back pain for years and I've spent hundreds of dollars on various massages, lotions and potions. The longest I've ever felt relief from pain is hours... So I decided to visit Bob at Dragon Rising.
I was desperate for help with my migraines, but had never tried acupuncture or cupping. Over the summer, I began working with Bob McAllister—a caring and skilled professional. After my first couple of sessions, I noticed a significant decrease in the frequency and level of my pain.
Bob McAllister does the traditional approach to acupuncture and it works! Also a very professional office setting. I tried a different person a few years back in Cameron Park and she was of no help. But I wanted to give it another try and this is been very effective for migraines and allergies this Spring.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
