When I first met Joan, I had previously been going to another acupuncturist regularly for lower back pain. My appointments with them would help but I had to return every week since treatments would make me feel better immediately, but not incrementally, improve my symptoms.

In 2019 - new to - and extremely anxious and skeptical about having an acupuncture treatment, I reluctantly went to Joan due to an acute and extremely painful sciatic flare up - having tried PT , and medication that made me drowsy and somewhat dizzy. It was a last resort!
I have been going to Joan for Acupuncture for several years now. Joan has a gift to heal no matter what the issue might be. Her depth of knowledge is vast and she her treatment techniques are as well. The 8 Pleasant St. S. in Natick is very convenient and has lots of free parking.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
