I recently completed my third session of Ku Route with Akiko at Attune Wellness. The best word I can use to describe what I experienced: transformational. The first session for me was pretty rough- it is not exactly a pleasant or relaxing experience.
I have seen Akiko for a number of treatments - she really is a healer. Most recently I visited for a series of 3 treatments using the Kū Route method. To say it was transformative is an understatement, I literally shed heavy energy and tension that I didn’t even know existed in my body.
I received 3 Kū Route sessions within a month, and the transformation has been profound. Long-held stiffness in my neck, shoulders, hips, and spine released. My posture improved, my body feels lighter, and even deep-seated coldness in my feet is gone. I feel more aligned, clearer, and emotionally softer.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
