I’ve been wanting to get back into energetic healing and full-body wellness practices for so long. Trying cupping has been on my wellness bucket list for years, and I’m so grateful I finally experienced it—with the amazing Isabel at Admiring You Wellness in Bastrop.
I started seeing Isabel shortly after giving birth and she is a godsend! I absolutely adored our sessions. Through her combination of acupuncture, cupping, and tuina, I felt like I received 3+ bodywork sessions in one. It was amazing. The chats before the session were also incredibly healing and helpful.
Isabel is a fantastic practitioner (dare I say miracle worker?) and I wholeheartedly recommend seeing her if you are considering acupuncture and/or cupping. I started seeing Isabel to treat post herpetic neuralgia in my head (Trigeminal nerve) after getting shingles in early September.
Isabel is an incredible healer and doctor. I have gone to her for back pain, period cramps, and just overall stress and she has helped me out immensely. As a wedding cake designer I am on my feet a lot and Isabel’s cupping and acupuncture is the best cure I have found for all the wear and tear I do to my body.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
