From the reviews
This is my 2nd visit to see Dr. Xu. Ive seen her in Troy and now Berkley location. She treated me for stiffness from arthritis in both knees and tendinitis in rt wrist using electro acupuncture. It's been 2 days since this 2nd treatment and I can fully bend my knees!
We’ve been seeing Dr. Xu for years, she does a great job and can help with any kind of ailment with acupuncture. She also offers wet / dry cupping, too. Highly recommended!
Every time I come here i get a great massage and cupping session. I've been a regular for the past 3 years. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
I’ve had chronic lower back pain for years, and nothing seemed to help. After just a few acupuncture and massage sessions in Acupuncture Berkley Center, the difference was incredible! The pain has significantly reduced, and I feel more mobile than I have in a long time.
Booking hijama (wet cupping) at Acupuncture Institute Of Michigan in Berkley
Acupuncture Institute Of Michigan in Berkley comes up as a provider that offers hijama — wet cupping, where the skin is lightly punctured after suction so a small amount of blood is drawn. If you're booking hijama specifically, a few things are worth asking before you go. First, sterility is everything — a reputable practitioner uses a fresh, single-use kit (new blades and cups) for every client and follows clean, gloved technique. It's completely fair to ask how they handle this. Second, many people booking hijama want a same-gender practitioner — a female practitioner is available here. Third, ask about aftercare and whether they observe particular days if that matters to you.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
