I found Stephanie on the internet - she is conveniently located 3 blocks from my work. Before seeing her I was about to end a 3 year hiatus with acupuncture: I moved from NJ to PA and just never got around to finding a new healer.
I received my first treatment from Stephanie 7 years ago, for a running-related hip injury that had alluded the “best” sports medicine doctors and orthopedists in Philadelphia. I was desperate to avoid additional painful, intrusive, and expensive tests, but knew NOTHING about acupuncture before seeing her.
Stephanie is fantastic...I started acupuncture with her after I miscarried and was struggling to get pregnant again, as I had heard acupuncture is helpful with infertility. The minute I met Stephanie, I liked her. I was anxious about the appointment and she put me at ease immediately.
I was diagnosed with Bell's palsy and couldn't move the right side of my face. I reached out to Stephanie and not only did she return my call immediately, we spoke for over 15 minutes to develop a care plan. Stephanie has been in practice for 25 years and that experience shows through her professionalism.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
