From the reviews
Went in for knee pain and allergies. I had trigger points done on my legs that helped my knee tightness along with cupping on my lower back. I also had allergy problems every single morning and no longer wake up stuffed up with mucus and coughing.
I saw Victoria for treatment for difficult sleep and low back pain. Oh my gosh! Her technique is so gentle, yet the positive effects were almost immediate. About 10 minutes after our session, my back felt significantly better. It felt relaxed, warm and I was moving with increased ease. That night I slept more deeply.
Turning Point is so knowledgeable and kind! Today was my first time trying acupuncture, and she made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire appointment. She walked me through every step and explained the traditional methods to me so I could have a better understanding as well.
What a wonderful experience for a true rookie…Ms. Victoria knows her stuff and is compassionate in the healing process. She makes you feel calm, relaxed and at ease for first timers!!! Can’t wait to return for my second treatment…so excited!!!
Booking hijama (wet cupping) at Turning Point Acupuncture - Mt. Pleasant, Victoria Ansell LAc.
Turning Point Acupuncture - Mt. Pleasant, Victoria Ansell LAc. comes up as a provider that offers hijama — wet cupping, where the skin is lightly punctured after suction so a small amount of blood is drawn. If you're booking hijama specifically, a few things are worth asking before you go. First, sterility is everything — a reputable practitioner uses a fresh, single-use kit (new blades and cups) for every client and follows clean, gloved technique. It's completely fair to ask how they handle this. Second, many people booking hijama want a same-gender practitioner — a female practitioner is available here. Third, ask about aftercare and whether they observe particular days if that matters to you.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
