From the reviews

I had Mary for acupuncture yesterday and from the moment I walked into the cozy, ambient environment I was at ease. She was friendly, her voice was soothing, and the room was clean. I fell asleep during my appointment after the little needles were placed and slept like a baby last night.

I had my first acupuncture visit at Treating the Root with Mary Chiappone. I walked in the door and the room was welcoming, calming. I met Mary, who is kind, considerate and she listened, with eye contact (which I find so respectful) and we talked a while about what was going on with me.

I have chronic low back pain. I tried the traditional Western medicine treatment — activity modification, medication, injections. It did not help much. I went to Treating the Root for acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic treatments. My back pain has decreased, and I feel so much better!

I booked a massage with Clark and he is amazing! He’s knowledgeable, professional, and his energy is warm and welcoming. My massage with Clark was very healing and relaxing! He was great about educating me on some of the techniques he was using and why he was using them, which I really appreciate.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
