What clients say about the cupping here
“Brooke is so kind, professional and very knowledgeable in traditional chinese medicine.”
“I was able to calm my thoughts and relax.”
From the reviews
Brooke offers a sauna with her service and I really enjoyed this. I was able to calm my thoughts and relax. Then I had my massage and cupping session. I was very impressed with how much it was needed. She was able to put pressure when needed and her techniques didn't hurt or feel like she wasn't massaging hard enough.
Brooke is so kind, professional and very knowledgeable in traditional chinese medicine. Her space is very warm and welcoming. King city is very lucky to have her healing services.
I couldn’t recommend Brooke enough and her knowledge in traditional chinese medicine. She truly is the best in town!
Brooke is beyond amazing. I received tui na from her at a time when I was suffering a lot of health issues and this massage was literally life changing for me. She never ceased to amaze how intuitive she was in her movements and just how much I learned about my body through each session.
Booking hijama (wet cupping) at Standing Oak Therapy
Standing Oak Therapy comes up as a provider that offers hijama — wet cupping, where the skin is lightly punctured after suction so a small amount of blood is drawn. If you're booking hijama specifically, a few things are worth asking before you go. First, sterility is everything — a reputable practitioner uses a fresh, single-use kit (new blades and cups) for every client and follows clean, gloved technique. It's completely fair to ask how they handle this. Second, many people booking hijama want a same-gender practitioner — ask whether that can be arranged. Third, ask about aftercare and whether they observe particular days if that matters to you.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
