Why Rivers of Qi Acupuncture is listed — cupping is a treatment, not a Google category, so we only list a provider when there's real proof they offer it. Here's what we found: “ine the study of Chinese and Japanese medicine with knowledge of Western physiology, treatment, and nutrition. In addition to acupuncture or prescribing herbal medicine, I may use other asian medicine techniques such as cupping,…” source →

From the reviews

I've been seeing Jessida for acupuncture for over 1.5 years and her care has been pivotal in my journey to getting pregnant and my overall well being throughout that process. Her personalized treatment for me is incredible - always matching my current needs of the day.

Pregnancy Treatment Review I started acupuncture after I was told I was high risk for preeclampsia due to high blood pressure and protein in my urine during my pregnancy’s first trimester. In addition to high risk for preeclampsia, I was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was under high stress.

★★★★★ — Raquel, Jan 2024

I went to Jessida to stabilize my blood pressure and work on improving my health. I began to see positive changes immediately! Jessida‘s knowledge and skill is delightfully complimented by her delicate touch. Most of the time I don’t even realize that the needles are being applied.

★★★★★ — Jake, Jul 2024

I started seeing Jessida for acupuncture in the fall of 2023 while she was at Root and Stem in Oakland, and followed her to her new beautiful practice in Albany, Rivers of Qi. I have had acupuncture treatments sporadically over the years for specific things but I have never seen someone regularly until Jessida.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
