I was a patient of Marina Doktorma for about two weeks (October/November 2020), receiving acupuncture treatments for lower back and knee pain. Marina is a true professional. Before beginning each treatment, she explained the treatment options and made sure that I was well informed and comfortable before beginning.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Pulse Acupuncture, and I have to say, it was absolutely amazing! Marina, the acupuncturist, is simply fantastic at what she does. She has a great sense of intuition and really takes her time to provide the best treatment possible. Marina's skills in acupuncture are exceptional.

★★★★★ — Yvy, Jun 2023

I've been suffering from everyday headaches my whole life, since my teens. I was constantly popping pills which was damaging my stomach. I lost all hope, did not know what to do. My physician recommended to try acupuncture. I did not know anything about it but I was desperate. I came to Marina Doktorman few years ago.

Booking hijama (wet cupping) at Pulse Acupuncture

Pulse Acupuncture comes up as a provider that offers hijama — wet cupping, where the skin is lightly punctured after suction so a small amount of blood is drawn. If you're booking hijama specifically, a few things are worth asking before you go. First, sterility is everything — a reputable practitioner uses a fresh, single-use kit (new blades and cups) for every client and follows clean, gloved technique. It's completely fair to ask how they handle this. Second, many people booking hijama want a same-gender practitioner — a female practitioner is available here. Third, ask about aftercare and whether they observe particular days if that matters to you.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
