From the reviews
I originally came here to try acupuncture after trying various other forms of treatment for shoulder, low back, and leg pain. It was explained to me that my insurance would cover the acupuncture but any other treatment would be out of pocket. Dr Whang suggested I try 3-5 sessions of cupping as well as the acupuncture.
I came to Oriental Medicine & Acupuncture Clinic initially for persistent shoulder blade pain and a curiosity about wet cupping after hearing about its detoxifying benefits. What I didn’t expect was to go on a full healing journey guided by someone I now consider a true master in her field.
I was referred to acupuncture back in April 2025 by Kaiser, but never went because my back pain went away. I’ve always had chronic pain though and other mental struggles. Fast forward to December 2025, the pain came back ten fold and went on for roughly a month.
After assessment by my healthcare provider for numbness and tingling in my hands I was referred for acupuncture. Dr. Moon Whang has provided treatment using acupuncture, cupping and herbal supplements. I have regained function of my hands without the numbness and tingling.
Booking hijama (wet cupping) at Oriental Medicine & Acupuncture Clinic
Oriental Medicine & Acupuncture Clinic comes up as a provider that offers hijama — wet cupping, where the skin is lightly punctured after suction so a small amount of blood is drawn. If you're booking hijama specifically, a few things are worth asking before you go. First, sterility is everything — a reputable practitioner uses a fresh, single-use kit (new blades and cups) for every client and follows clean, gloved technique. It's completely fair to ask how they handle this. Second, many people booking hijama want a same-gender practitioner — a female practitioner is available here. Third, ask about aftercare and whether they observe particular days if that matters to you.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
