From the reviews
I called Modern Roots Acupuncture because I was experiencing back pain. I spoke with Rory who was able to set me up with an appointment later that day. At my appointment, Rory gained a full understanding of how I was feeling & assested my back discomfort. He then customized a treatment he felt would work best for me.
I’ve had only amazing experiences working first with Rory, then with his wife Megan who is now treating me. I’ve worked with many acupuncturists in the past and Megan goes above and beyond in each treatment. She intuitively knows just what to treat and I’ve benefited so much from the cupping and earseeds.
I found Dr. Rory through a Google search. Being new-ish to the area I was looking for acupuncturists near me. I didn’t have any recommendations, so I was flying blind. When I went on the website and emailed, I was surprised to get a reply so quickly, that was the first green flag.
Here is my story. I was suffering with sciatic pain. Medication didn’t work, couldn’t walk, even stand up. Sitting in the bed and crawling in the house for over a month, crying from the sharp pain. I was recommended to go see Rory. 85% pain was gone after 2 sessions with him, then pain free after 4 sessions.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
