From the reviews

Until a month ago, I viewed acupuncture as "voodoo medicine". On a suggestion and recommendation from my therapist, I started going to Maryville Acupuncture two months ago to help manage my PTSD and anxiety issues.

Just finished my second session yesterday and I truly believe that acupuncture is another tool to help me deal with the challenges of life, especially mindfulness, stress, anxiety, and pain. The office is very welcoming and calm from the moment you walk through the door.

I had my first consult and treatment today. It was a nice place and the receptionist was so sweet and helpful. I’m seeing Jennifer and I couldn’t be more pleased. She was friendly and listened to everything I said. She was very knowledgeable about the issues I deal with on a daily basis.

★★★★★ — Rhonda, Sep 2022

What an amazing experience. Kate is such an excellent listener during intake and asked the best follow-up questions. She was so informative and professional and in tune every step of the session and gave me complete control of my experience while providing expert care.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
