Several months ago I tore ligaments in my right shoulder surfing. After researching my injury, I decided to try acupuncture for the first time. I chose Johns island Acupuncture due to the many years of experience of Jane Mathew’s.

Jane is a miracle worker!!! I first visited Jane to help me with my Bell’s Palsy, which she sped the recovery time to about two weeks. I was so relieved. From there, I started seeing her to focus on my digestion, anxiety, and backpain. She focussed on what was bothering me the most at the time.

Jane is amazing!!! I found her after a year of trying everything else for a calf/hamstring injury and she fixed it (saved me from going down the mri route)! Last fall, I broke my humorous bone in half and she was one of the first people I went to a week after surgery to jump start the healing process and she walked…

Jane successfully treated my shoulder injury that I had been struggling with for two years. I am now pain free! She also treated a recent back injury and it significantly reduced my recovery time and pain.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
