From the reviews
The absolute best of the best. I have been a regular acupuncture / cupping / massage client at Blue Heron for the last four years, and their professionalism, efficacy of services, and genuine kindness are bar-none in Charleston.
My Blue Heron Acupuncture visits started about 10 years ago. I had severe asthma, taking several medications daily and still having frequent asthma attacks. After several visits with Lisa I began to see remarkable improvement. Currently I do not take ANY asthma medications and have NO symptoms ( for 9 1/2 years!!!
I struggled with neck and shoulder pain for a year, seeking treatments from massage therapists, chiropractors and taking medicine from my doctor. It took just one session with Dr. Lisa Abernathy to make me feel about 90% better!
My experience with Lisa was incredibly nourishing and comforting. She spent true, detailed time understanding what brought me in, as well as asked the most intuitive, thoughtful questions. Lisa is the most thorough practitioner, is fully present, and genuinely sees the individual she sits in front of.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
