From the reviews

My husband went to see Rachel after she was highly recommended by a friend. He has had chronic back pain for the past 10 years, sometimes spending days even weeks in bed, and out of work. After trying different treatments, all without luck, he finally decided to go the acupuncture way, and oh is he glad he did.

I was shopping for a new acupuncturist and found Rachel through a friend. She's available on Sunday, how great is that! My low back was killing me after lifting something too heavy. Rachel reduced my pain with one visit from a 7 out of ten to a 4 out of ten. Thank you Rachel!

★★★★★ — Sharon, Sep 2018

I was suffering from tension headaches and migraine for over a week and I went to see Rachel and with 1 session my headaches are gone, I felt fantastic leaving the office, Rachel was great she ask a lot of questions to try to figure out what was causing the headaches and 4 weeks later still no headaches.

Rachel was kind, gentle, welcoming and made me feel comfortable despite this being my first time experiencing pre-natal acupuncture! She definitely knows her stuff and was eager to get to know me and how exactly acupuncture can specifically help me emotionally and physically. I truly appreciate that kind of care.

Booking hijama (wet cupping) at Bergen County Acupuncture and Wellness

Bergen County Acupuncture and Wellness comes up as a provider that offers hijama — wet cupping, where the skin is lightly punctured after suction so a small amount of blood is drawn. If you're booking hijama specifically, a few things are worth asking before you go. First, sterility is everything — a reputable practitioner uses a fresh, single-use kit (new blades and cups) for every client and follows clean, gloved technique. It's completely fair to ask how they handle this. Second, many people booking hijama want a same-gender practitioner — ask whether that can be arranged. Third, ask about aftercare and whether they observe particular days if that matters to you.

What to expect from your first cupping session

New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.

Cupping isn't for everyone — if you're on blood thinners, pregnant, or have a skin condition or bleeding disorder, check with your doctor first, and always tell your practitioner about health concerns before a session. This page is directory information, not medical advice.
