Even though I grew up on the East Coast, I had no experience with Eastern medicine until I moved to Arizona. I found Paul in the hopes of accessing a little bit of mental reprieve during a very stressful exam time & what I took away from that experience was so much more.
I was never really sure about how and if acupuncture actually worked. However, I visited Paul’s office a few years ago to deal with some menopause symptoms and I was surprised with how much it did help. When I recently started having some sleep issues I knew where I needed to go.
I came into above & beyond acupuncture to try out cupping for the first time. Paul takes the time to explain to you how the process works and figure out what your problem areas are.
The acupuncture and cupping feel amazing and not only that but the conversations are genuine and helpful. It's helped with my mood and energy. I feel like I can focus better as well. Now this is something I am excited to get to do. Paul is patient and calm and easy to talk to.
What to expect from your first cupping session
New to cupping? Here's the short version. What happens: the practitioner places cups on the skin — most often the back, shoulders, or legs — and creates suction (with a pump, or briefly with a flame for fire cupping). Cups either stay put for a few minutes (dry cupping) or are glided over oiled skin (massage cupping). A session is usually 15–45 minutes, often added to a massage or acupuncture visit. The marks: cupping leaves round, bruise-like circles that are normal and usually fade in a few days to a couple of weeks — they're discoloration from the suction, not an injury, and shouldn't really hurt. What to wear: comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Afterward: drink water, keep the area warm, and skip intense sun or a hot sauna right after.
